The Online Edition...
The North Star online has been around for several years, beginning around 1999 when it was under a subdomain. Several years back our domain, www.thenorthstaronline.com, was purchased and has been ours since. The North Star online has been the recipient of the NSPA Pacemaker award several times in the recent past - 2001, 2003, and 2005.

The North Star online is hosted by ipower.com. It is powered by a mySQL database which holds all the articles, comments, poll data, and user profiles. All coding on the site was done exclusively by Brennan Murphy using Notepad++. It is XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliant to enhance accessibility toward all users.

The site is best viewed in Firefox 1.0+. Certain features do require the use of Javascript; therefore, it's recommended that for the best experience you turn Javascript on in your browser.

All articles appearing online are from the print edition of The North Star. Photos appearing in the Photo Gallery are collectively from The North Star staff. Photos appearing in individual articles are property their respective owner, which is noted below them.

The Print Edition...
The North Star print edition is a non-profit publication created monthly by the Journalism students of John Wesley North High School in Riverside, CA. It has been in production for nearly 25 years. The paper started out under the name "The Paw Print" and later changed to its current incarnation, "The North Star".

The print edition has been the recipient of many awards. This includes the 1998 NSPA Best-of-Show first place award, the 2002 NSPA Best-of-Show second place award, the 2002 NSPA All American award, a 2002 CSPA Gold Medal, the 2003 NSPA Best-of-Show first place award, the 2003-2004 International First Place Quill and Scroll award, the 2004 NSPA Best-of-Show fifth place award, the 2006 NSPA Best-of-Show third place award, the 2007 NSPA Best-of-Show tenth place award, the 2006-2007 International First Place Quill and Scroll award, the 2007-2008 International First Place Quill and Scroll award, and designated the 2007-2008 Gold Medalist from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

The paper is currently headed by William Badarak and Margaret Zhou, with Kathy Rossi as the advisor. With a circulation of around 2600 the paper is printed by SoCal Commercial Printing. The paper has a staff of 35 in grades 10 through 12.
