History teacher Chuck Libolt will retire after thirty-two years of teaching at North High School. Instead of spending his days as a full-time history teacher, the former literature teacher plans to finish several books he has begun to write, travel, cook and work in his garden.
Despite his retirement, Libolt plans to return as a part time teacher next year to teach one period each of both AP and IB European History. “[Returning as a part time teacher] is something I really look forward to. I honestly can’t see my life without teaching- My plan is to never leave.” said Libolt.
His obvious dedication and passion to teach will be missed by many of his past and current students. Sophomore Julia Bu said, “I’ll definitely miss his stories. I think I know his life story better than those of my other teachers.”
“It’s been a good run. It’s been a good experience,” said Libolt. “Teaching for me-is something that should be a joyful experience...Nothing is more satisfying than to see a kid who grows and makes progress in their learning-I get to see that every day...Every year I get to see these kids become more of who they are. That’s what I live for and that’s what makes it so difficult to leave.”
